Clucking on a Pot Call: Techniques for Effective Turkey Communication
2m 33s
In this episode of Call the Wild by Slayer Calls, we focus on the clucking sound using a pot call. To create a cluck, hold the striker in the same way as before, like you’re about to write, and apply pressure as you pull it straight back across the surface of the call. The amount of pressure you apply will determine the volume of the cluck; lighter pressure results in a quieter sound, while more pressure gives you a louder, more pronounced cluck.
When using a slate call, the location of the striker on the surface will also influence the sound. Clucking closer to the edge of the call produces a softer, quieter sound, while moving toward the center creates a louder, raspier cluck. Combining clucks with yelps gives you a highly realistic range of turkey sounds, making your calling much more convincing. By adjusting pressure and the position of the striker, you can fine-tune your calls to fit different hunting situations. Keep practicing these techniques, and you'll quickly add another valuable tool to your calling arsenal.
