Master Turkey Calling with Cody McCarthy: Learn at Your Own Pace
Creating the Perfect Yelp on a Pot Call
1m 6s
In this episode of Call the Wild by Slayer Calls, we focus on creating the classic yelp using a pot call. To start, hold the striker in the same way you would a pencil, maintaining control and precision. The key to a good yelp is rhythm—begin by making small “C” shapes with the striker, keeping the tempo consistent. For a slower, more relaxed sound, reduce the speed of your circles. To make the yelp louder, simply increase the size of the “C” shapes and push the striker a little harder. The ability to adjust both the tempo and volume of the yelp adds versatility to your calling, allowing you to mimic different turkey behaviors more realistically. Keep practicing these techniques to refine your calls, and we’ll explore more advanced sounds in the next episode.
